Abinesh Ganapathy is currently a PhD student at the Department of Hydrology, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India. His doctoral research focuses on developing climate-informed models to estimate flood risk under changing climate conditions by incorporating the influence of large-scale climate drivers. Through his research, he aims to strengthen the resilience against floods in developing countries, contributing to several Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG13 (Climate Action), and SDG6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).

Abinesh holds a Master’s degree in Land and Water Resources Engineering and a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering. He was a Commonwealth Split-Site Scholar at the University of Birmingham (2022) and a recipient of the DAAD–IIT Master Sandwich Programme scholarship (2018–2019) at the Technical University of Dresden.

Apart from his research, Abinesh actively contribute to academic communities. He currently serves as the Secretary of the Young Hydrologic Society India, an early career researcher initiative that promotes collaboration among young hydrologists in India and their active participation on larger platforms. He also convened short course sessions at the 2024 & 2025 General Assemblies of the European Geosciences Union (EGU). In addition, Abinesh has peer-reviewed more than 25 research articles for various scientific journals and received the 2024 Hydrological Sciences Journal Reviewer Award from the International Association of Hydrological Sciences for excellence in reviewing.

Going forward, Abinesh envisions engaging in more societally relevant research, contributing to sustainable water management and enhancing resilience to hydrological extremes in changing climate conditions.
