Kar Woh Chong

Double master’s degree, University of Agder (Norway) and MBA from Universitas Gadjah Mada (Indonesia)

In 2026, Kar Woh will begin his PhD in Green Finance at the University of Kassel, Germany under Professor Christian Klein, in collaboration with the GreenWatch research group at University College Dublin, led by Professor Andreas Hoepner and Dr. Fabiola Schneider. His doctoral research focuses on greenwashing detection and corporate transparency in sustainable finance, leveraging artificial intelligence and empirical methods to link corporate sustainability claims with measurable environmental and financial outcomes.

Kar Woh's research project sits at the crossroads of green finance, data science, and environmental accountability, building tools and evidence to ensure that sustainability commitments lead to real-world impact. Through his work with GreenWatch, he aims to develop an integrated “anti-greenwashing” framework that links corporate sustainability disclosures to measurable environmental and market outcomes.

He holds a double master’s degree in MSc in Sustainability Management from University of Agder, Norway and MBA from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia, together with a MITx Micromasters® in Statistics and Data Science from One League. Professionally, he has served with WorldFish, NAREE International, and Greenpeace Southeast Asia, focusing on sustainability analytics, climate finance, and environmental research.

As a Digital GreenTalents Awardee, Kar Woh is passionate about using AI and data-driven innovation to make green finance more transparent, accountable, and effective in driving the global transition toward sustainability.
