Malcolm Isaac Fernandez is a James-Watt PhD Scholar at Heriot-Watt University, Malaysia Campus. His PhD research focuses on the development of future renewable energy scenarios for national energy systems. Malcolm has contributed in research publications of Q1 Elsevier journals such as Renewable Energy and Energy with his research team. In addition to his journal publications, he has also presented his work on modelling solar PV power system integration in IEEE international conferences.

Malcolm graduated with an MSc in Renewable Energy Engineering with Distinction in 2021 and an MEng in Electrical & Electronics Engineering with First-Class Honours in 2020 from Heriot-Watt University, Malaysia Campus. His previous work on MEng final year project involved development of IoT based energy management system for green building which involved sensor data collection, real-time cloud storage of data, image processing, and digitalisation using Raspberry Pi. This project won the 1^st runner up in the IEEE Malaysia Best Final Year Project Competition under the Power and Energy Society (PES) track. Furthermore, Malcolm has worked for Siemens under the Smart Infrastructure organisation in 2022.

In summary, Malcolm’s work aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Goal 7 on Affordable and Clean Energy and Goal 13 on Climate Action.
