Zorobouragui Loukaiya

PhD Candidate, University of Parakou (Benin)

Loukaiya is currently a PhD Student in Animal Breeding, Genetics, and the Conservation of Genetic Resources at the Doctoral School of Agronomic Sciences and Water at the University of Parakou in Benin. She also work as a research assistant at the Laboratory of Animal Health and Production Ecology (LESPA), Faculty of Agronomy, University of Parakou.

Her research focuses on the genomiccharacterization and digital traceability of indigenous cattle breeds to develop climate-resilient breeding programs in the Republic of Benin. This work addresses protein shortages, reduces dependence on imports, and contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 15 (Life on Land). By integrating genomic technologies with digital traceability tools, her research aims to enhance sustainable livestock production, preserve genetic diversity, and strengthen resilient agropastoral systems in West Africa under increasing climate pressure.

Loukaiya Zorobouragui holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Animal Production Sciences and Techniques with a specialization in Animal Breeding and Genetics from the Faculty of Agronomy, University of Parakou. Her research focused on the characterization of Gudali zebu husbandry practices to support the development of a Community-Based Breeding Program (CBBP) in North-Eastern Benin. This work aimed to improve the livelihoods of livestock keepers, enhance animal welfare, and increase the local availability of animal products while reducing dependence on imports.

She combines her scientific research with leadership and mentoring, guiding young students and advising livestock breeders. Passionate about empowering women in STEM and fostering entrepreneurship, she is committed to advancing sustainable agriculture and building a distinguished scientific career.

Loukaiya Zorobouragui is deeply committed to leveraging digital innovation and molecular tools to promote sustainable livestock systems, safeguard genetic diversity, and empower rural communities. Her ambition is to co-design a user-centered digital traceability platform that integrates genomic and environmental data with artificial intelligence to guide informed breeding decisions under climate pressure. Passionate about combining science and digital solutions, she strives to build resilient livestock systems that both preserve biodiversity and strengthen the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.
